All India Institute of Medical Sciences
- AIIMS was created in 1956, as an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament, to serve as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspects of health care.
- AIIMS conducts teaching programs in medical and para-medical courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Teaching and research are conducted in 42 disciplines.
- Twenty-five clinical departments including four super specialty centers manage practically all types of disease conditions with support from pre- and Para-clinical departments.
Objectives of AIIMS
- To develop a pattern of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of medical education.
- To bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of the personnel in all important branches of the health activity.
- To attain self-sufficiency in postgraduate in medical education.

- Research in medical and related sciences.
- Health care: preventive, promotive and curative; primary, secondary & tertiary.

Duration Of Course
The Course of studies leading to the award of degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences shall last for a minimum of five and a half academic years including one year’s compulsory internship.

- AIIMS, New Delhi:
The 125 seats for Indian Nationals and 7 seats for (Foreign Nationals) are available for admission to MBBS course.
Out of these, seats reserved for other categories are:
- Scheduled Caste - 19
- Scheduled Tribe - 9
- Other Backward Classes - 34
- Economically Weaker Section - 12
- General Category for Indian Nationals - 51
A 5% reservation for Person with Benchmark Disability (PWBD) as per provision of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 shall be provided on horizontal basis, amongst the seats available subject to evaluation by the Medical Board of the Institute.
B. Eighteen other AIIMS:
- In the Eighteen AIIMS (viz: Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Gorakhpur, Patna, Raipur, Mangalagiri, Nagpur, Kalyani, Rishikesh with intake of 125 student each
- Bathinda & Raibareli with intake of 100 students each,
- the Bibinagar (Telangana) and Deogarh with intake of 62 student each
- 50 students each in Guwahati, Rajkot, Bilaspur and Jammu
RESERVATION POLICY FOR OTHER CATEGORIES: -
- 7.5 % reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST).
- 15% reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC).
- 27% reserved for Other Backward Castes (OBC).
- 10% reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
- 5% reservation for Person with Benchmark Disability (PwD) which will be provided on horizontal basis.
